കേരളത്തില് 1960 കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളില്തന്നെ ക്രിസ്ത്യന് മിഷനറി പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി എ.എ.യുടെ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട സാന്നിദ്ധ്യങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നതിന് കേട്ടറിവുകളുണ്ട്.
അമേരിക്കയില് ഡോക്ടറായിരുന്ന കൂത്താട്ടുകുളം സ്വദേശി ഡോ. എബ്രഹാം എന്ന നോണ് ആല്ക്കഹോളിക് എ.എ.യുടെ സന്ദേശം, എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ പരേതനായ ജോയിക്കുട്ടിക്ക് 1973 നവംബര് 20ന് പകര്ന്നുകൊടുത്തു. 2004-ല് മരിക്കുന്നതുവരെ അദ്ദേഹം സുബോധാവാനായി തുടര്ന്നു. ജോയിക്കുട്ടിയെ തുടര്ന്ന് പരേതനായ ജോഷ്വ, പോള്, ഡോ. ജോസ് എന്നിവര് പിന്നീട് എ.എ.യുടെ സജീവതയായി മാറി.
1981-ല് മദ്രാസില് എ.എ. ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോള്ത്തന്നെ കേരളത്തില് വരാപ്പുഴ ആര്ച്ച് ഡയോസിസ് ക്ലബ്ബില് എറണാകുളത്തും ഒരു എ.എ. ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ആരംഭിച്ചു. 1982-ല് നടന്ന മദ്രാസ് എ.എ.യുടെ ഒന്നാം വാര്ഷികത്തില് കേരളത്തില്നിന്നും ജോഷ്വ, രവി തുടങ്ങിയവര് പങ്കെടുത്തിരുന്നതായി മദ്രാസിലെ പഴമക്കാരനായ വാസു ഓർമ്മിക്കുന്നു.
1983-ല് എറണാകുളം ലൂര്ദ്ദ് ആശുപത്രിയില് ജോഷ്വയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില് മറ്റൊരു എ.എ. മീറ്റിംഗ് ആരംഭിച്ചു. 1984-ല് കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പിള്ളിയില് എല്ലാ ക്രിസ്ത്യന് വിഭാഗങ്ങളെയും ഒത്തു ചേര്ത്ത് പരേതനായ ഫാ. ജോര്ജ്ജ് കോലത്ത് നടത്തിയ എ.എ.യുടെ സന്ദേശം നല്കലാണ് ആ പ്രദേശത്തെ എ.എ.പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള്ക്ക് ആരംഭം കുറിച്ചത്.
1987 കാലഘട്ടത്തില് പാലാ ഭാഗത്ത് എ.എ. പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങിയ സിസ്റ്റര് ജോവാന് ചുങ്കപ്പുര, പിന്നീട് ഫാ. കോലത്തിനു ശേഷം 1989-ല് ട്രാഡയിലൂടെ എ.എ. പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളില് സജീവമായിരുന്നു. ആദ്യനാളുകളില് മദ്രാസിലെ വാസുവും വെങ്കട്ടും ഇവര്ക്കൊപ്പം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.
1987 കാലഘട്ടത്തില്തന്നെ വടക്കന് കേരളത്തില് വയനാട് മാനന്തവാടിയില് (വിന്സന്റ്ഗിരി ചികിത്സാലയത്തില്) വിക്ടറി എ.എ. ഗ്രൂപ്പ് എന്നപേരില് എ.എ. പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള്ക്ക് സിസ്റ്റര് സെലിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്കി.
കേരളത്തിലെ എ.എ.യുടെ സജീവതയുടെ തെളിവാണ് 1989 ഏപ്രിൽ 21 മുതൽ 23 വരെ കൊച്ചിയില്വച്ച് നടന്ന അഞ്ചാമത് ജി.എസ്.ഒ കോണ്ഫറന്സ്. ജോയിക്കുട്ടി, ജോഷ്വ, ഉണ്ണികൃഷ്ണന്, മോഹന്ദാസ് തുടങ്ങിയ എ.എ. അംഗങ്ങളാണ് ഇതിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്കിയത്. പിന്നീട് 1995 ഡിസംബർ 1 മുതൽ 3 വരെ എറണാകുളത്ത് വെച്ച് 16-ാമത് ജി.എസ്.ഒ കോണ്ഫറൻസും, 1998 ഡിസംബർ 11, 12 തീയ്യതികളിൽ വയനാട് കല്പറ്റ വെച്ച് 22-ാമത് ജി.എസ്.ഒ കോണ്ഫറൻസും 2003 മെയ് 16, 17 തീയ്യതികളിൽ കോഴിക്കോട്ട് വെച്ച് 31-ാമത് ജി.എസ്.ഒ കോണ്ഫറന്സ് നടക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.
1987 മുതല് 1992 വരെ ശ്രീ. വാസു (മദ്രാസ്) തമിഴ്നാടിന്റെയും കേരളത്തിന്റെയും സംയുക്ത ക്ലാസ്സ് ബി ട്രസ്റ്റിയായിരുന്നു. തുടര്ന്ന് 1992 മുതല് 1997 വരെ ശ്രീ. വെങ്കട്ട് (മദ്രാസ്) സയുക്ത ക്ലാസ്സ് ബി ട്രസ്റ്റിയായി. കേരളത്തിലെ എ.എ.യുടെ വളര്ച്ചയ്ക്ക് ആല്ക്കഹോളിക്സ് അനോനിമസ് ക്ലാസ്സ് ബി ട്രസ്റ്റിമാരായിരുന്ന വാസുവിന്റെയും വെങ്കട്ടിന്റെയും നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള് എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടതാണ്. അതേസമയംതന്നെ, സിസ്റ്റര് ജോവാന് ചുങ്കപ്പുര എ.എ.യുടെ ക്ലാസ്സ് എ നോണ്ആല്ക്കഹോളിക് ട്രസ്റ്റിയായിരുന്നു എന്ന് അന്വേഷണത്തില് നിന്നും മനസ്സിലാക്കുവാന് കഴിഞ്ഞു.
1991-ല് കോഴിക്കോട് നിലവില്വന്ന സുരക്ഷ ആശുപത്രിയില് എ.എ.യുടെ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള് ആരംഭിച്ചു. സുരക്ഷ ആശുപത്രിയുടെ ഡയറക്ടറായിരുന്ന ശ്രീ. ഹാഫിസ് മുഹമ്മദ് ഇതിനായി കനത്ത സംഭാവനകള് നല്കി. പില്കാലത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം എ.എ.യുടെ നോണ്ആല്ക്കഹോളിക് ക്ലാസ്സ് എ ട്രസ്റ്റിയായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
തിരുവമ്പാടിയിലെ രാജു, മാനന്തവാടിയിലെ പരേതനായ സണ്ണി, പുല്പ്പള്ളിയിലെ ജോസഫ് എന്നിവര് കോഴിക്കോടുള്ള പരേതനായ രവീന്ദ്രനുമായി നടത്തിയ കൂടിക്കാഴ്ച്ച പിന്നീട് വടക്കന് കേരളത്തിലെ എ.എ.യുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി മാറി.
കോഴിക്കോട് സുരക്ഷ ആശുപത്രിയില് 1992-ല് ഒരു എ.എ. ഗ്രൂപ്പ് പിറന്നു. തുടര്ന്ന് ബേപ്പൂരിലും തിരുവമ്പാടിയിലും എ.എ. ഗ്രൂപ്പുകള് ആരംഭിച്ചു.
ഇന്ന് കേരളത്തില് 14 ജില്ലകളിലായി 400 ഓളം ഗ്രൂപ്പുകള് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു.
It is hearsay that in the 1960's itself, there were isolated presence of AA in Kerala as a part of Christian missionary activities.
On 20th November 1973 Dr. Abraham, a Non-alcoholic from Koothattukulam, who was a doctor in America, carried the message of AA to late Mr. Joykutty of Ernakulam district. Mr. Joykutty was sober until his death in 2004. Mr. Joykutty was followed by late Mr. Joshua, Mr. Paul and Dr. Jose who later joined AA and became active.
In 1981, when the A.A. Group started in Madras, during the same period, an A.A. Group started in Kerala also at Varapuzha Archdiocese Club in Ernakulam. Mr. Vasu, an old timer of Madras, remember that Mr. Joshua, Mr. Ravi and others from Kerala participated in the first anniversary of Madras A.A. in the year 1982.
In 1983, another A.A. meeting started at Lourdes Hospital, Ernakulam, under the leadership of Mr. Joshua. Getting together all Christian denominations of the Kanjirapally region, late Rev. Fr. George Kolath delivered the A.A. message in 1984 which was the commencement of activities in that area.
During 1987, Sister Joan Chunkapura, came forward to A.A activities in Pala area. Later, after Rev Fr Kolath, she became active in A.A activities through TRADA in 1989. Mr. Vasu and Mr. Venkat from Madras worked with her in the early days.
During 1987 itself, in Mananthavadi, Wayanad, north Kerala, a new Group named Victory A.A Group stared the activities which was led by Sr. Celine.
The 5th GSO conference held in Kochi in 1989 is proof of the activeness of AA in Kerala. It was led by AA members Mr. Joykutty, Mr. Joshua, Mr. Unnikrishnan and Mr. Mohandas. Later, the 16th GSO Conference was held at Ernakulam from 1st to 3rdDecember 1995, the 22nd GSO Conference was held at Kalpatta, Wayanad on 11th and 12th December 1998 and the 31st GSO Conference was held at Kozhikode on 16th and 17th May 2003.
Mr. Vasu (Madras) was the joint Class B Trustee of Tamil Nadu and Kerala from 1987 to 1992. Then from 1992 to 1997 Mr. Venkat (Madras) was the joint Class B Trustee. The activities led by Mr. Vasu and Mr. Venkat, who were Class B trustees of Alcoholics Anonymous, is worth mentioning for the growth of A.A. in Kerala. At the same time, it was able to understand from the inquiry that Sister Joan Chunkapura was a non-alcoholic class A Trustee of AA.
AA's activities started in Kozhikode in 1991 at Suraksha Hospital. Mr. Hafiz Muhammad, who was the then director of Suraksha Hospital gave too much support for this. Later he served as non-alcoholic Class A Trustee of A.A.
The meeting of Mr. Raju of Thiruvambady, Late Mr. Sunny of Mananthavadi and Mr. Joseph of Pulpally with late Mr. Ravindran became part of the history of A.A in North Kerala.
An AA group was started at Kozhikode Suraksha Hospital in 1992. Then AA groups were started in Beypur and Thiruvambady.
